Religion – the definition of ignorance, stupidity and evil

“In dark ages people are best guided by religion, as in a pitch-black night a blind man is the best guide; he knows the roads and paths better than a man who can see. When daylight comes, however, it is foolish to use blind old men as guides.”

– Heinrich Heine

Although I consider all religions to be equally untrue and ridiculous in their preachings, perhaps I should start by saying that when talking about religion for now, I’m mostly covering the three Abrahamic religions: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

The surrender of our critical mind and lying to children are the main reasons (as I think they allow for the rest of the atrocities committed by these cults) why I’m convinced that organized religion is one of the most stupid, ignorant, and evil ideas that the human species has ever come up with. Slavery, racism, genocide, homophobia, scapegoating, genital mutilation, and to consider women (half the population right there) as an inferior creation are among the awful things that religion stands for and imposes. Over us to supervise and to make sure these atrocities are maintained is supposedly installed a celestial dictatorship; someone who creates us, owns us, knows what we think, can convict us of thoughtcrime, and watches over us every waking and sleeping moment, not only until we die, but for an eternity thereafter. To wish for this to be true is to wish to live as a slave.

Is it really too much to ask for to be able to live in a society where you can’t say, “I’m a person of faith” and get respect for it? Anyone who says this with the intention of making a point or an argument will by me, and should by any thinking person be treated with ridicule and contempt. As if there was something positive and respectable about stating that you’re a person who will believe in practically anything without any evidence at all. I suppose it must be said that I’m completely fine with people having these illusions as long as they leave me out of it. I will not reply kindly to anyone that tells me that I must play with, or worship these illusions, and that I must live as a slave. But as it is right now it’s not possible to live your life without being infected with religious nonsense. It infects education as well as politics, and every day one has to read about another case of death and misery caused by religion. It’s about time we grow up from these bronze age myths that belong to the childhood of our species. Enough is enough!

On this subject I ought never to even entertain the idea of being satisfied with my performance until religion is laid to rest. God did not invent man. Man invented god(s). Without providing any evidence at all, God himself would be ashamed of his creatures with such a beautiful mind to be delluded into thinking he (God) existed.
